I Love The Earth 02/13/2010

People all over the world are preparing to celebrate Valentine's Day.  I love all the people in my life.  And I love the Earth too.  Just like we sometimes take the people in our lives for granted, we take the Earth for granted.  We assume that it will always be bountiful and provide all that we need.

All relationships take work.  Our relationship with the Earth is no different.  We need to plant what we can, use less, and recycle the items that we can.  We need to give more than we take sometimes.

As we prepare for the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, I am going to do my part.  Every day I am going to post some green tips and an eco-art project.  Look for a "lovely" art piece tomorrow.  but, enjoy these tips today:

Unplug that appliance: The average family burns 1,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity on things that are plugged in but turned off.

Think before you bite: It takes 600 gallons of water to grow the corn that feeds the cow that produces one 1-pound hamburger.

"Air fresheners" do nothing but pollute your indoor air: Scent your house safely by boiling herbs or citrus slices in a small amount of water.

Improve your toilet's efficiency by placing a soda bottle in the tank.

I am an eco-artist and crafter. I enjoy altering objects to create works of art.  I am also an eco-art educator.

I am known as scrappy girl because I love to create art out of scraps that I find - fabric, wood, paper, etc.
